The Sex Workers Project (SWP) at the Urban Justice Center seeks a Director. Created in December 2001, the Sex Workers Project is the first program in New York City and in the country to focus on the provision of legal services, legal training, documentation, and policy advocacy for sex workers. Using a human rights model, the SWP protects the rights and safety of sex workers who by choice, circumstance, or coercion remain in the industry. In addition to protecting the legal rights of sex workers, the SWP has a strong and respected anti-trafficking program.
The SWP Director develops the mission, programmatic goals and budget for the project, and is responsible for fundraising the project budget; supervises and coordinates staff of sex workers rights and anti-trafficking programs, which include direct legal representation, public education and outreach, and policy advocacy; promotes reform of policies affecting sex workers, including criminal justice and anti-trafficking systems; oversees human rights documentation and policy and media advocacy; and supervises legal staff. J.D. is required.
Interested applicants should send their resume, cover letter and writing sample by e-mail, to mditmore@urbanjustice.org. No phone calls or other inquiries, please. Deadline is September 15, 2008. For more information, open the job announcement.
